Gail AustinMedium: Printmaking
My artwork is a visual oasis for me. Most of my images are from my environment that I live in. The garden, fish pond, grape vines, bamboo, and flowers at my home all find their way into my copper plate etchings. Some of my copper plates are hand cut into shapes with a jeweler’s saw, making them unique in form and adding depth to the prints. The Vase Series expresses fascination with vessels from other countries and centuries. My Tea Series represents my love of time spent in conversation with friends and family. Recent explorations with collographs have reconnected me with texture I valued so much in my years of weaving. When not making art, I work for two psychiatric hospitals as an Occupational Therapist, assisting patients in recovery from acute mental illness. |
