Merrily is a Kirkland painter and an active arts advocate. She has taught art classes and is now experimenting with the challenges of color. Merrily works in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and paper, relating her work to her travels. She has paintings in private collections nationally and has won awards in local exhibits.

"Life is a continual painting of experiences, inspiration and play, sometimes dark in desperation and sometimes illuminated in truth, passion and fun. I paint the layers of my life that are hidden behind doors and also ones that jump out and land in your life unexpectedly. I enjoy working with acrylics and mixed media, starting with a basic concept or intension Using acrylic paint I add various old world papers I have picked up in my travels or in Asian markets. I use my own photos in a computer program print them on rice paper for a layering effect. Mixed media is a lot about design and intent, weaving in personal experiences. I hint at a concept or intension in my work inviting the viewer to jump in and enjoy.........or not."
