Joy Hagen is a painter in encaustic medium. Surrounded by a forest of significant trees and woodland paths right in her own backyard, she is constantly reflecting upon the subtle interplay of light and shadow with terrain and peek-a-boo views. Hagen creates multi-layered, assembled landscapes utilizing reclaimed wood and hot melted bees wax to impart a very tactile and organic Pacific Northwest experience. The forester's daughter is revealed in art that takes you for a walk in the woods. Her work can be found in the permanent collections at Kenmore City Hall, Swedish Hospital Redmond and Swedish Hospital Everett, and she regularly exhibits at Studio 103 in the Tashiro Kaplan Bldg. in Seattle and at the EAFA Gallery in the Seattle Design Center. Her most recent honor was placing 1st in encaustic medium in the publication "Art Buzz - The 2012 Collection."
