Barbara is a Seattle native who went to school at the UW and majored in Marine Botany and minored in Art. She was introduced to clay in high school and continued to play with it through out college. She was drawn to clay because she enjoy working in three-dimensional art. She loves the feel of clay and the sights of watching it develop into something that she can recognize and enjoy. She finds working with clay is very therapeutic and relaxing. Barbara’s neighbor taught her how to work in stained glass, while she was in collage. She expanded to fusing a few years ago. She finds the layering of the glass in fusing fascinating. The results of fusing remind her of microscopic organisms she used to study in school. She said she “always thought both of them looked like beautiful little jewels”. Barbara really enjoys exploring different mediums. She finds that the ideas and techniques used in one project can lead to inspiration for another project. She draws ideas, not only from her art projects and science background but, from many different aspects of her life. Her work is strongly influenced by her love of nature, the outdoors and the sea. It has many fluid shapes based on organic natural forms.
