There is a sense of quiet stillness and expectation in watercolor.” - Colley Whisson

I think watercolor is just plain fun. It’s something you cannot control. I wait to see which direction it moves and then move with it. It is independent on its own. No other medium offers the chance to work with a medium in motion.

My watercolor paintings are a real reflection of where I am at that moment. My favorite way to paint is plein air or “on the spot and outside”. When I’m plein air painting, the strong emotions I feel are put onto the paper. The moment is captured in the painting. The experience shows in the painting.

I always said I wanted to paint in watercolor. One class and I was hooked. I have painted full time ever since. Suddenly everything I do is related to watercolor and the business of watercolor. The same path seen from a business person’s eyes is completely different than that path from this painter’s eyes. Larger, more details and the expectation of a painting. My eyes are open to many things today I missed while in the corporate world. I think I  am forever changed. The combination of travel and painting is reflected in my work.
