Growing up Northwestern Nebraska farm country, skills as an artist were achieved on a self-taught basis simply drawing and painting. Residing outside of the Continental United States from 1979-2001 in Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Guam, Hawaii and Yap, Micronesia, Ruth's focus was personal growth in artistic endeavors learning more as she taught others to draw and work in watercolor.

In Indonesia she worked as a creative animation director and director of design in batik. In Australia she developed and conducted a Drawing and Portfolio Presentation Program for The Youth Adult Bureau in Melbourne which defined a focus that carried into teaching watercolor and a Gifted and Talented Program in Guam. In Hawaii she continued teaching watercolor with the Continuing Education

Program at the University of Hawaii.

A trip to Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia in 1991 created a move to the small island to focus on painting the people and culture of the island which evolved to an offer to teach eight local young men to be illustrators for the Yap Department of Education.

Upon her return to Colorado in 2001 she continued teaching at Colorado Mountain College, Western Colorado Center of the Arts, Western Colorado Community College, private studio classes and conducting out of state workshops.

In 2006 Ruth made a move to Seattle where she has done in-store demos for Daniel Smith and is conducting classes in her home studio.
She belongs Cottage Lake Artists, EAFA and is currently being considered for Women Painters of Washington.

Ruth has work in galleries in Colorado, Washington and Hawaii. She has participated in many local and national art organizations worldwide receiving a number of awards. Private, public and corporate collectors worldwide have purchased her work.
