Kat Morrell has been working in clay for the past 16 years and with crystalline glazes for the past 3 years. Porcelain is either thrown on the potter's wheel or hand built from slabs of clay to create forms that hint at the underlying geometric building blocks. Specially formulated crystalline glazes are applied and the pieces are fired with a complex schedule of heating and controlled cooling. Molecules from the molten glaze connect to form crystalline structures within the layer of glaze.
