Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Kirkland Artist Studio Tour?

Kirkland Artist Studio Tour began in 2004 when a small band of a artists led by Chris Sharp and Joanne Shellan decided it was time Kirkland had its own Artist Studio Tour. With so many talented, hard-working artists in Kirkland a dozen artists chipped in a hundred dollars each and made it happen! They decided to open their studios once a year on MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND to give the public a rare opportunity to see artists create in their studios. Every year the tour has grown in popularity. 2009 will be our sixth year with over 55 artists in over 20 studios throughout Kirkland.

How does the tour work?

This is an annual self directed artist’s studio tour. Maps and a description of each artist’s studio are distributed in a full-color brochure. Signs along the route direct people to the actual studios. Each studio has one or more participating artist. The public is invited to step into amazing art workplaces to see the tools and techniques of creating art. People who have been on the tour told us they were excited about getting to know the artists and getting a glimpse into the creative process. We encourage artist to do demonstrations or have “works in progress” on display.

When is the tour?

The tour is held on Saturday and Sunday of Mother’s Day Weekend from 10-6pm.

Who is eligible to participate?

Participating artists must be members of the Kirkland Arts Center at the Patron ($150) level, must live, and work or sell their art in Kirkland. Each year we send out a prospectus to interested artists. Artists must submit information about their art resume and provide three images of their work. All artists show in studios in Kirkland on Mother's Day Weekend. If you are interested in participating, contact us by e-mail at KAST@kirklandartscenter.org.
